| John D. Mabie, founded Mid-Continent Capital in 1983 and serves as its Chairman. Mr. Mabie graduated with honors from Williams College and spent twenty-nine years at the former A.G. Becker Paribas Incorporated and its predecessor companies. He was Vice Chairman of the Board and a member of its Investment, Operating and Audit Committees. John also served as a Director and Chairman of the Finance Committee at Reading Co. and as Chairman of the Petroleum Intelligence Group. He was a Director of SG Warburg’s offshore mutual funds and a Director of the Lou Holland Mutual Fund. Mr. Mabie served on the advisory boards of three venture capital companies: Frontenac Company, New Enterprise Associates and Syndicated Communications. In addition, John is active civically. He is a Life Trustee of the University of Chicago Hospitals, past Chairman of both Finance and Investment Committees and a Life Trustee and former member of the Executive Committee of the University of Chicago. He was President of the Alumni Association of Williams College. He is also the former Chairman of the Brain Research Foundation, Trustee and past Chairman of the Hadley School for the Blind and a Trustee of the Golden Apple Foundation. |
| Lawrence J. Brottman, CFP, is Co-Chief Executive of Mid-Continent Capital and oversees the client servicing and marketing efforts of the firm. In addition to co-managing the growth equity portfolios, he is also a member of the investment research committee. Previously, Larry spent ten years at ABN AMRO Asset Management (USA) Inc. and its predecessor firm. He was a Senior Vice President, ran the Private Client practice of the firm, and was also instrumental in developing and then managing the equity portfolio for taxable as well as tax-exempt clients of the firm. Larry’s other prior experience includes six years at Arthur Andersen, in the Personal Financial Services department, where he worked with clients across many planning disciplines, but in particular focused on investment planning and implementation. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology teaching graduate school classes in Investments and Portfolio Management. Larry earned both his B.S. and M.B.A. from Illinois State University. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) as well as a CPA. He is a member of the Illinois CPA Society, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Planning Association. Larry joined Mid-Continent Capital in 2000. |
| Edwin M. Bruere, CFA, is Co-Chief Executive of Mid-Continent Capital and is responsible for investment management and risk control of clients’ equity and fixed income portfolios. Ed also chairs the investment research committee. Previously, Ed spent twelve years at ABN AMRO Asset Management (USA) Inc. and its predecessor firm. He was a Senior Vice President and the Director of Institutional Equity Investments. As such, he was responsible for the firm’s approximately $2.5 billion in equity investments, focusing on the flagship Stable Growth and Value Strategies. Ed was instrumental in developing and managing the Value strategy. Ed’s other prior experience includes two years as a Managing Director of an investment management firm and six years as a Senior Director at Bank of America in merchant banking (London), ship financing (Greece) and general banking (Chicago). Ed earned his B.S. from Iowa State University and his M.B.A. from Indiana University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology teaching graduate school classes in Investments and Portfolio Management; from 1980 to 1983 he was an Adjunct Finance and Investments Professor at Mundelein College. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago as well as a Director of the Indiana University Reese Foundation. Ed joined Mid-Continent Capital in 2000. |
| Roger A. Albrecht, CFA, is an Executive Vice President of Mid-Continent Capital and portfolio manager. Roger began his career in investments in 1990 as a research analyst for Morningstar, Inc. For three years, he conducted quantitative mutual fund research for its flagship publication Morningstar Mutual Funds. From 1993 – 1995 he was a Portfolio Manager at First Colonial Bankshares & Trust Company of Chicago (later merged into Firstar Investment Research & Management Corporation (FIRMCO)) managing high net worth client investment portfolios. In late 1995 Roger joined Harris Bank & Trust Company as a Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager and for eight years was responsible for designing investment portfolio strategies for high net worth clients, researching debt and equity markets and securities and implementing market transactions. He was a member of the Harris Equity Security Selection committee and a member of the Harris Tactical Asset Allocation committee. In late 2003 Roger joined Bufka & Rodgers, (now part of Mid-Continent, L.L.C.) as a Vice President and Portfolio Manager. He received his B.S. Degree in Finance from Illinois State University in 1990, his M.S. Degree in Finance with Distinction in 2000 from DePaul University and was awarded the CFA charter in 1993. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago. |
| Charles M. Sloan, CFA, is an Executive Vice President of Mid-Continent Capital and portfolio manager. In his business career since college, Charlie has held positions of increasing responsibility at Arthur Andersen & Co, Harris Trust and Savings Bank and at Holland Capital Management. Most recently, Charlie served as a co-portfolio manager of a mutual fund as well as a senior equity analyst at Holland Capital Management. In addition to his portfolio management and analysis responsibilities at Bufka & Rodgers, (now part of Mid-Continent, L.L.C.), Charlie is an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Chicago’s Graham School, teaching an introductory course in Securities and Markets. Charlie attended Northern Illinois University on an athletic golf scholarship, graduating with a BS in accountancy in 1988. In 1998, Charlie received his MBA with honors from the University of Chicago and is a CFA charter holder. |
| Terrence S. Wilson, CFA, is a Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Mid-Continent Capital. He received his BS degree in Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1985, then spent 12 years in the telecommunications industry. Terry left the telecommunications field in 1997 to pursue an MBA degree in Finance from the University of Chicago, which he received in 1998. Terry is also a CFA charterholder. Terry began working in the financial industry in 1999 as an Associate Equity Analyst for Lincoln Capital Management, a large cap growth fund manager. His initial responsibilities included research support for the firm’s senior industrial analyst and were followed by primary research coverage of the energy sector. In 2002, Terry joined CMF Capital Management, a multi-cap long/short hedge fund, as an equity analyst and was responsible for a variety of industrial and applied technology sectors in the fund. Terry joined Bufka & Rodgers, (now part of Mid-Continent Capital, L.L.C.) in June 2004 as a Senior Investment Analyst and Portfolio Manager. |
| Michael F. Hussey, CFA, is a Senior Investment Analyst with Mid-Continent Capital. He joined Bufka & Rodgers, (now part of Mid-Continent Capital, L.L.C.) in 1990 and over the ensuing decade held a variety of senior management positions there, including Director of Research. Mike's other prior experience includes five years as a Vice President in the Chicago office of The First Boston Corporation. He was also an Adjunct Professor of the Practice of Finance at the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill from 2002-2008. Mike earned his BA degree in Economics (with High Distinction, Phi Beta Kappa) at the University of Virginia and his MBA degree (Beta Gamma Sigma) at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He holds the CFA charter and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago. |
| Susan E. Lorsch, CFA, is Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of the firm. She is responsible for compliance as well as supporting the portfolio management and client servicing staff across various disciplines, including research and performance measurement. Previously, Susan spent ten years at ABN AMRO Asset Management (USA) Inc. and its predecessor firm where she was a Senior Vice President and managed the Marketing Support Group. As such, she was responsible, from conception through production, for the firm’s descriptive and analytical material used in marketing and client servicing presentations. She also supervised third party database management (benchmark data, manager universes, competitor profiles) and all performance related responsibilities, including maintaining the firm’s compliance with industry performance measurement standards. Susan chaired the firm’s AIMR committee on performance measurement standards and was a member of the original committee that brought the firm into industry compliance. Susan’s prior experience includes ten years of institutional marketing, sales and portfolio management, having served as a Vice President of a $1 billion trust department, a Marketing Director for the pension division of a major life insurer and a Client Service/Portfolio Manager of another trust department. Susan earned her B.S. from the University of Illinois and her Masters of Management from Northwestern University. She is a member of the CFA Institute and the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago. Susan joined Mid-Continent Capital in 2000. |
| Bridget Vogenthaler is a Vice President – Client Service of the firm. She is responsible for supporting the portfolio management and servicing of the firm’s clientele as well as heading up the Operations Group. Previously, Bridget spent fifteen years at ABN AMRO Asset Management (USA) Inc. and its predecessor firm, where she was a Vice President, and had various responsibilities over the years. Her experience crosses all operational disciplines, including account administration, trade settlement and movement of securities and cash. She spent three years as Head of Operations supervising the firm’s administration and operational functions before moving to focus her efforts on supporting the Private Client group. During her last year at ABN AMRO she worked exclusively with Larry Brottman to insure the smooth handling of all client requests and daily account activity. Bridget joined Mid-Continent Capital in 2000. |
